Design
The back shell is made of plastic with an aluminum ring. We have received the Comet Blue model. A very nice gradation of blue extends from one end of the hull to the other.
The effect is discreet, chic with lines of light that immediately catch the eye.
This is not the only thing that catches the eye. The realme 6 features a flat 6.5-inch LCD panel with Full HD+ resolution (2400 x 1080 pixels).
The edges around the panel are relatively thin with the inevitable prominence at the chin. The ratio of the panel is still 90.5%.
The screen refresh rate reaches 90Hz with a 120Hz Touch Sampling. This is amazing for this price range.
The screen has a high brightness level that allows it to be used outdoors without any problems. On the other hand, it has a strong tendency to turn blue. An adjustment is necessary for the good of its eyes.
Realme has made some concessions to pull the prices down. Do not look for the fingerprint reader under the screen. You have to look at the side of the slice in the ignition button. It is ultra fast and accurate. You forget very quickly the absence of sensor under the screen.
The power
There are three different configurations: 4GB / 64GB, 4GB / 128GB and 8GB / 128GB. These are DDR4X RAM and UFS 2.1 storage. We tested the version with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.
The smartphone runs with a MediaTek MT6785 processor. It does not show any weakness with this configuration. It manages to run the big games of the moment without too many problems.
Call of Duty Mobile for example runs with a high level of detail by default. There is no slowdown in 60Hz.
The realme 6 and the photo
The realme 6 has a quadruple camera. This photo module gathers a 64MP main sensor (f/1.8), an ultra wide angle of 8MP (f/2.3), a 2MP monochrome sensor (f/2.4) and a 2MP macro (f/2.4).
Realme 6 does very well in daylight. It ta
kes pictures with a good level of contrast and detail. The colors do not stray too far from reality with just enough spice to enhance the whole.
The shots taken with the wide angle show a clear difference in color. They are much more advanced. On the other hand this sensor manages to contain the deformations on the sides of the photo.
The realme 6 unfortunately lacks an optical zoom. It is possible to perform magnifications X2, X5 and up to X10. The loss of detail remains acceptable with the X2 zoom. Beyond that, the vision of the realm 6 becomes blurred and details are sacrificed.
The absence of an optical image stabilizer also makes it difficult to take a sharp picture at long distances.
A quadruple camera
The Portrait mode is able to make precise cuts. Some highlights that are too rebellious are blurred, but this does not affect the quality of the portrait.
The 16MP Selfie sensor also proves to be quite rigorous. He doesn't like bright light sources, but he manages to make well-diverted portraits.
The smartphone performs a post-processing. What you see on the screen doesn't necessarily reflect what you'll get in the end. An ear that may appear blurry at first will be caught on the shot.
A word about the macro sensor. It allows you to take pictures at a distance of 4 cm. The 2MP sensor is not powerful enough and it does not allow to zoom in the pictures. The appearance of noise is felt very quickly. We would have liked an indicator to tell us the right distance to have the best rendering.
Finally, the realme 6 records videos in 1080p at 60fps and in 4k at 30fps. The lack of optical stabilizer is felt in 4K.
Night photos are always a problem on mid-range smartphones. The realme 6 does quite well provided that you use the night mode directly. The result is not perfect but thanks to it, the pictures keep a good level of detail.
The battery
A 4300mAh battery powers the realme 6. It offers it a generous autonomy of 15 hours in intensive and permanent use via the test tools.
In practice, the realme 6 battery lasts a day and a half without any problem. As usual, it depends on your game or video consumption. This will decrease its autonomy.
For example, fifteen minutes of gaming made us lose 5% of the battery. You also have to take into account the screen refresh rate. It is better to leave it in 60Hz or automatic to preserve the battery.
The other good news is the compatibility with the 30W fast charge. You won't have to wait long to get the Realme 6 up and running again, it only takes 60 minutes to go from 0 to 100%. However, realme has skipped the wireless charging.
What we think about it
Without being a revolution the realme 6 is a good surprise especially in its price range. For 300€ you get a versatile smartphone with a successful design. We assume that the best option is the 8GB / 128GB configuration.
Not everything is perfect, but when you look at the balance sheet, the balance is on the positive side. We can take credit for its large bright 90Hz screen, good autonomy or the 30W fast recharge.
The processor could have been more powerful but it won't let you down if you need it. The quadruple photo sensor shows its limits in terms of zoom or video stability but it will surprise you during the day.
All in all, the realme 6 is a rather nice smartphone with a very good quality/price ratio.
The prices
Realme 6 will be available from April 6th in white and blue. You have the choice between three configurations but to be comfortable in all circumstances we recommend the version with 8GB / 128GB.
